I love seeing these threads after seeing the tones of negative ones.
I think the key to keeping GW or any game for that matter fresh is taking a bit of break, playing something else then coming back.
I don't get the people that complain about it 24/7 and still playing ruining the fun for everyone.

Around March, I got annoyed by GW so I took a break the whole summer (still logged in once in a while) and played other games, once GW:EN came out I got back and I'm addicted to GW now as much as I was when it came out back in 2005.

So thank you Anet, GW is and always will be my favorite game.

GW is possibly the best game I have ever played and the longest amount of time I have ever invested in a single game.

Great work Anet !

1,400 hours and counting... ANet... congratulations you have consumed $35k of my time in 2 years I would say ... mission accomplished... I love GW and I love Anet... GW has been the only game EVER that I have solely spent over 250+ hours on ... well ... we have well exceeded that...

I've had fun, but my favorite game is Morrowind.

Regardless you had one of the best games out there in 05, changes happened and it became less fun for me. When I was able to farm certain things (I wasn't making money mind you, just killing them was fun) I had a grand ol time doing it. Not so much anymore.

Yeah, thanks for the game. It's one of the few games where me and my girlfriend can play together side by side.

No offense, but, if you feel like this, why would you post or even read this thread?

It's like all these people unhappy about GW that will post a message here, do they HAVE TO disagree with the OP and all the other people that agree with him?

If you're unhappy about GW, this thread is NOT the place to be for you. Unless, maybe (I don't know, you tell me) one wants to ruin other people's fun (which you're very unlikely to do this way anyway ...) or one's so angry at Anet that one has to express it on all the GWG threads and especially the "positive" ones?

As much as I like reading constructive criticisms (which I seem to less and less often these days), I don't like threads going in all directions (I'm not blaming anyone here, I've made mistakes myself, sometimes answering to the trolls). And tbh GWG sees a lot more trolls and useless posts these days (it's not a reason to quit, it's a big house, but it'd be good if moderators would operate a slightly stricter policy).

People loose memory and forget that this game is no-monthly-fee and how much content it offers (it's all relative, if you play 24/7 it does not look like much after 1 or 2 months, but for people like me it's a huge amount (yes I haven't finished Factions, NF and GW:EN, lame isn't it? More seriously, I simply take my time).

But the most annoying thing is that people loose a certain sense of perspective, up to the point where certain people (not you) get carried away by their expectations (like this thread asking that the Halloween event gets missions like other events). Some people were (and still are) given a lot of good times for a very reasonable price, they used it very quickly and greedily, and are now expecting that more is given to them (and since it won't, they complain, sometimes in great length and with convoluted explanations). And most people do not see the numerous aspects of the game, the PvErs and the PvPers, in PvE the max-titlers and the roleplayers, in PvP the lights and the heavys, then the ones that want a sword as big a their body, those that want back the good old days, the one that doesn't like this graphical glitch, and the one that wants less lag, more loot, more color, more quests, more money, more maps, more levels, more heroes, more friends, more this more that more more more more. The list is not endless but it's very long!

(I'm not PR for Anet just in case someone wants to mention it; oh and accusing Anet of hypocrisy is absolutely ridiculous: which other game has developpers reading forums and PRs that gives feedback? One sometimes wonder whether the liars from the "the truth about GW" are not around here trying to spread false information...)

Anet has done an Uber-Great job in creating GWars and I've spent 2 years playing it happily. However, there are a few things that have made the game turn very sour IMO:

Dishonor Hex: Deprives players of their freedom of choice. It also causes a level of "oppression" to those that have been RAing for a long time now.

/Report Function: The automated command that gets abused all-too-easily and causes affected players to suffer time-wasted (especially if they're trying to reach gladiator titles). Ultimately, it just brings bitterness to players while the others just sit there and laugh and mock them, gloating on how good it is to see players become anguished by the "dishonorable" hex. It makes players just not want to play in PvP at all.

Loot Scaling: GWars used to have a huge fun-factor in farming. Why did Anet let it go the way of the Dinosaurs? To put an end to botting? Botting will not go away until there is a program that is 100% successful at tracking them. In essence, bots will always be around. So why change the loot in an attempt to hamper what will always remain until the above mentioned is accomplished?

Text Fade: Not a critical issue, but it does contribute to the overall ouotlook of GWars and gameplay a decimal amount.

Concluding, it causes players to feel an undesirable distress followed by the aspirations of desertion, making them want to search for another game that doesn't cause this similar experience. The above mentioned should be withdrawn or at least be modified so that it isn't so much of an irk. Developers' time and devotion to GW2 should not limit their work to the point of completely overlooking the needs of GW1. Too many players have worked so hard to just let it all get canned and then call it a day. Just IMO. Anet's Devs are extremely talented and I thank them for GWars, but there are some very prominent discrepancies that demand attention... Otherwise there will be alot of displeasure and continued anguish in the GWars Community.

in fairness its a great game.

The cost of the 4 games + the time put in =money well spent, with a good bit more left in the game.

What a peculiar outlook. Does getting paid for doing your job negate the fact that praise for a job well done is a appreciated?

But yes thank you Anet for all the wonderful things you've done for us since launch.
they were on a limited budget when they made GW 1. Now they have plenty of money (50.00*3)*4,000,000+30*how ever many bought gw:en) - overhead.... id say they have plenty of money.

and like all buisnesses, the bigger they are the less they care and more likely they are to drop the ball ......... woot

So true I wanna do the math on that just to see how much money they really raked in Fried you forgot the 5$ for the GOTY, and the 10$ character slots, and the PVP skill packs so they have more even more money than you thought LOL.

WOWSER here is the extimated number that Anet has made in 2 years $700,000,000 not including the minior Store sales GOTY,Char slots, and PVP packs. Estimated 30-40% is profit they still made $1,750,000,000. not enough money LOL

And of course you're forgetting what they spend on servers, equipment, advertising, etc. It's not all just them raking in the dough.

Your math sucks.

They have sold 4 million units, i.e. individual games. So they have made about $200 million. Over two and a half years.

Keep in mind that's revenue, not profit. I'd imagine that the game development and upkeep costs of the servers (and salaries!) take up about 90% (arbitrary percentage) of that $200 mil.

ArenaNet does not have an "unlimited supply of money."
